We recently saw a Forbes article from 2012 that had surveyed young managers in the US. The survey identified that within 28 months, 75% of employees are on the look out for new jobs or have left their positions to pursue other opportunities. The reasons they offered for this? A lack of mentoring, coaching or training.
At GC Event Hire we know it can be tricky (and frustrating) investing time and resources to training employees who don’t end up staying with the company long enough to put those skills to use. The fact is though, that if you don’t meet the expectations of your team – you will inevitably have a high turnover.
The event hire industry is a tough one. We require our staff to be highly trained in workplace health and safety and be prepared to work odd hours and in sometimes stressful, time driven environments.
Our decision to adopt a “preferred employer” strategy has been of great benefit. We place a high value on training and retaining our staff and investing in their ability to make us the best in the industry.
To this end, we have encouraged our staff to improve their skills, further their careers and become familiar with all aspects of our company.
Our staff have really taken to this new approach and we are proud to be doing everything we can to ensure our staff share our passion for all things event and party hire!
You can read more about our training program in this article published by The Chronicle and profiles our team member, Michelle Ogier who (to quote her!) “thoroughly loves and enjoys her job.”
